Energy-Water Nexus workshop to address long-term needs and partnerships for two essential sectors in the West
DENVER - Leaders in the water and energy sectors will convene in Denver on April 2 to identify growing needs and potential for collaboration during a workshop on the energy-water nexus. The workshop is sponsored by Western Governors' Association (WGA) and the Western States Water Council (WSWC). Registration is now open to the public at the Western States Water Council's website.
The workshop is designed for water and energy experts, managers, and practitioners to discuss ways in which they may coordinate their respective planning strategies and to make recommendations to the Governors for their compatible development.
Commissioner Jim Tarpey of the Colorado Public Utility Commission will offer insight on the role of water in energy policy during the keynote address. Tarpey's message will set the tone for an agenda ranging from new water-saving technologies for energy production to federal energy-water nexus efforts.
Vince Tidwell of Sandia National Laboratory will present the most recent research on the energy-water nexus, particularly focusing on the Western and Texas Interconnects.
The workshop will encourage attendees to share ideas on other key issues for the continued growth and health of both the water and energy sector. For example, the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) will demonstrate their efforts to incorporate water into long-term planning and modeling.
The workshop will be held at the Sheraton Downtown Hotel,1550 Court Place, Denver, CO. The session begins at 10:00 am and will conclude by 5:00 pm. Please register by March 27 as seating for the event is limited. For further information, including a preliminary agenda and registration, visit: WSWC - Upcoming Meetings.
