Western Wind Evaluation

The purpose of this project is to provide a forum where regional stakeholders, including industry, states, FERC/DOE, and public interest groups can discuss actions that would remove barriers to wind development in the Western Interconnection, work with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest Service to promote policies (e.g., give higher priority to land use plan amendments in high wind potential areas, effective policies to encourage investment in wind resource characterization, standardize policies for evaluating wind-related right-of-way applications, coordinate with land use policies on adjacent state and private lands) that will enable expanded development of wind resources on federal lands, an issue critical to expanded wind development in the West, and foster efforts in the Western Interconnection to establish a green tags market and related generation tracking system.
