Overview
The WREZ Environment and Lands Work Group is responsible for:
- Categorizing the development potential of Renewable Energy Zones based on environmental, land use, and wildlife criteria in Phase 1 of the WREZ process.
- Identifying policies and best practices to facilitate development in sensitive areas.
- Recommending criteria for siting generation and routing transmission to the zones.
The Environment and Lands Work Group will work closely with the Western Wildlife Habitat Council (WWHC), a group of state fish and wildlife agency representatives responsible for leading the regional mapping effort to identify important wildlife habitat and sensitive ecosystems.
Membership
Work group membership has been limited to ensure participation from a balanced stakeholder group and to maintain a manageable size. Conference calls and meetings are open to the public and interested parties are welcome to sign-up as observers. A participant list of current work group members as well as a list of observers.
Public Comment
Work group members will accept public comment on draft work products. A notice will be sent out when documents are posted and will include a deadline for commenting. Please send comments to mwest@westgov.org including your name, organization, e-mail and phone.
Conference Calls

Work Products
- List of Land Types – revised 11-14-08
A summary of the actions taken by work group members to identify land types where development is precluded based on statute or regulation. If necessary, land types are also identified as not being precluded based on statue or regulation but where impediments to development occur. This chart is a product of the process outlined in the precluded land process flow chart.
