On Jan. 29, 2003 WGA and the Western Premiers Conference signed an agreement to more closely integrate cross-border fire fighting efforts between the United States and Canada.
In January, the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Interior announced the first-ever National Fire Plan award winners, commending WGA for providing "exemplary leadership in coordinating and successfully engaging a diverse group of stakeholders to develop the 10-Year Comprehensive Strategy and Implementation Plan."
