Proposals for Utilities and Carbon Dioxide Strategies
A panel of
federal, state, tribal, industry, and environmental representatives will discuss
proposals for addressing air emissions from electric utilities. Proposals
include the Western Regional Air Partnership's (WRAP) sulfur
dioxide Annex, President Bush's Clear
Skies Initiative, and U.S. Senate
Bill S.556 (Clean Power Act of 2001). Panelists and participants will also discuss
proposals for addressing carbon dioxide emissions.
Goals for the Session
- Identify key Western issues associated with proposals to reduce
emissions from electric utilities and address carbon dioxide
emissions.
- Emphasize the importance of having a Western approach in any federal
legislation to address utility emissions, especially preserving the
WRAP's sulfur dioxide Annex.
- Identify next steps for the West and the Administration to continue
working together as these initiatives move ahead.
