The SPSC filed its 2012 TEPPC Study Request with WECC on Jan 20, 2012[ pdf ]

November 30, 2011

SPSC submitted comments to WECC on what states and provinces want to see in future transmission plans developed by WECC. The SPSC submitted these comments in response to Brad Nickell's request for such input at the SPSC meeting on Oct. 27, and in lieu of responding to the Nov. 8 survey from WECC requesting input from stakeholders on the information that should be included in the next transmission planning cycle. The SPSC found the survey questions to be too narrow and limiting for SPSC to articulate its views.

EIM Crossroads Meeting - webpage

March 7-8, 2011

The proposed EIM is a sub-hourly, real-time energy market tool that dispatches balanced energy in an economical way while maintaining reliability.

The EIM Crossroads Meeting grew out of the WECC stakeholder process as it became apparent that a forum was needed to answer a number of questions about an EIM and discuss what it would mean for the West.

Work to develop a Reference Case for WECC's 2010 transmission expansion planning studies is in high gear. There are four major building blocks; load forecasts; generation to meet RPS requirements; generation to fill any gap between generation and forecasted load; and the transmission topology in 2010 which is the starting point for evaluating new transmission needs. States/provinces need to review this information.

  • Review adjustments to load forecasts submitted by Balancing Authorities (BA).
In support of the SPSC’s DSM Work Group, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has developed adjustments to BA forecasts submitted to WECC.  The DSM Work Group is reviewing the LBNL adjustments.  States/provinces are being asked to approve or modify the adjustments by August 6.  The adjusted load forecast will be the basis for the 2010 studies requested by the SPSC.  Click here for more information.
  • Review calculations of generation to meet RPS requirements.  Tom Carr (WIEB)
leads this work being done by the WECC Resources Team. Click here for Information needing review by states and provinces.
  • Review additional resources needed to ensure load forecasts and existing generation operating in 2020 plus assumed generation to meet RPS requirements. Information from the WECC Resources Team will be available shortly.
  • Review the “foundational list” of new transmission likely to be on-line by 2020.  Subregional Planning Groups have developed a foundational list of projects.  States/provinces need to review this list and provide feedback to WIEB and WECC staff
by July 27.  Adjustments to the SPGs foundational list of projects will be considered at a July 28 meeting of the WECC Studies Work Group. Click here for information on the SPGs’ foundation project.
