AWWI/WGA Workshop on GIS-Based Tools for Renewable Energy Development
Hosted by the Western Governors’ Association & American Wind Wildlife Instititute
January 18-19, 2012
Denver, CO
Overview: The workshop focused on the use of GIS-based tools to inform the intersection of renewable energy development and conservation of wildlife habitat, but the discussion included a much broader look at the current needs – and future potential – for GIS-based information to inform land use planning. Participants included GIS experts, spatial system developers, renewable energy experts, and representatives from state and federal government, the wind industry, and nongovernmental organizations.
This workshop report includes a compilation of “lessons learned” about the development of GIS-based tools and their use in the renewable energy arena and a catalog of existing GIS tools.
Pre-Workshop Webinars on existing GIS tools are available at AWWI's website.
