2018 Winter Meeting

Registration is now open for the 2018 Western Governors’ Association Winter Meeting, December 11-13, in Hawaii hosted by WGA Chair Gov. David Ige. The meeting will feature public roundtable discussions on critical issues facing the West, including renewable energy and the Western Governors’ Biosecurity and Invasive Species Initiative.

Biosecurity and Invasive Species Initiative

The Chairman’s Initiative of Hawaii Gov. David Ige will focus on the impacts that nuisance species, pests and pathogens have on ecosystems, forests, rangelands, watersheds, and infrastructure in the West. The Initiative will examine the role that biosecurity plays in addressing the risks posed by invasive species.

WGA Working Lands Roundtable

The mission of the WGA Working Lands Roundtable is the ongoing implementation of WGA natural resource-focused initiatives. The Roundtable will examine crosscutting policy issues and engage a broad coalition of stakeholders to advance past Chair Initiatives and other policy priorities.

Western Governors, hosted by WGA Chair and South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard, met June 25-27 to discuss critical regional issues such as the opioid epidemic, wildfires and workforce development.

Workforce Development Initiative

The first year of the Western Governors’ Workforce Development Initiative brought together stakeholders to bridge the gap between prospective workers and employers. The first-year report shares findings about how Governors can leverage their leadership to improve workforce development in their states.

Celebrate the West Art Competition

The 2018 art competition, which challenged high school students to create artwork inspired by their state, received more than 450 entries. The 2019 competition is now open.
